OPERA ON THE INTERNET

A couple of opera favorites, some Gluck, and even some lesser-known Verdi are on the schedule in the days ahead. One of those "favorites" (at least, according to numerous opera-lovers) is Puccini's "Turandot" which can be heard tomorrow evening (Thursday) as performed LIVE from the Met. It's yet another of the Met's weekly free live audio-streams.

The other "all-time favorite" (considered by many) is Donizetti's "Lucia di Lammermoor." This one also comes to us from the Met, as it is this Saturday's matinee broadcast which can be heard on many internet radio stations.

From Italian Radio (RAI - Radio 3), there's also a LIVE performance from Florence of Gluck's 1767 opera "Alceste."

Then on Sunday (April 8), opera fans who love the music of Verdi but don't often get a chance to hear some of his less famous works can actually choose from two offerings. One is a LIVE broadcast from Barcelona of "Attila" (from 1846), featuring bass Ildar Abdrazakov in the title role.

The other Verdi opera that isn't performed all that often but which appears on Sunday's schedule is his 1848 opera "Il Corsaro." This is a performance from Valencia and can be both seen & heard as OperaVision is featuring a FREE video-stream of the work which, incidentally, features tenor Michael Fabiano in the role of Corrado.
