OPERA ON THE INTERNET
WITH
DAVE D’AGUANNO

3 radio broadcasts from the Met this week! First off, tomorrow night (Thursday) at 7:55 p.m., you can tune in to the Met's free LIVE audio-stream of "Elektra" by Richard Strauss, followed on Tuesday (March 6) with a LIVE audio-stream of Rossini's "Semiramide." The latter begins at 7:25 p.m. and features the same cast that will be appearing in the HD-transmission on March 10.(www.metopera.org/)

The 3rd Met broadcast is the Saturday afternoon performance of Puccini's "Madame Butterfly" which can be heard on several internet radio stations.

Also on Saturday, German Radio has scheduled a broadcast of the January 19, 2018 performance from Dresden of Weber's "Euryanthe."

There's even more German opera on tap this Saturday with a video-stream on Culture Box of Wagner's "Tristan & Isolde" from Berlin. (This one might be blocked here in the U.S., but it's worth checking it out in the event that it's available to all of us Wagner fans.)

Non-Wagnerian opera fans, however, who may opt out of the "Butterfly" broadcast from the Met or the "Euryanthe" from Dresden might be interested, instead, in the LIVE performance of Donizetti's "La Favorite" which comes to us direct from Florence and can be heard on Radio 3 (RAI).

Or -- just to complicate matters a little bit more -- fans of 20th century opera may choose to watch the video-stream on OperaVision: a recent (Feb. 23) performance from Prague of Bohuslav Martinu's "Julietta" (1937), complete with English subtitles provided.

And for those of you who may want even more opera on Sunday, you can access WFMT for a LIVE performance from Lyric Opera of Chicago of Gounod's "Faust."

Enjoy!

OPERA ON THE INTERNET
WITH
DAVE D’AGUANNO

For many opera fans, the upcoming HD-transmission on Saturday of Puccini's beloved "La Boheme" will be of primary interest. This LIVE performance from the Met features soprano Sonya Yoncheva as Mimi and tenor Michael Fabiano as Rodolfo -- certainly two of the most popular young singers before the opera public today. The performance can also be heard on many internet radio stations.

Also on Saturday, for those of us who may prefer to listen to something other than Puccini's admittedly gorgeous masterpiece, there's Handel's opera seria "Ariodante" (premiered in 1735) which can be heard on ORF (Austria) in a performance from Vienna.

Then again, instead of Puccini, one might turn to Verdi, as Swedish Radio will be broadcasting a performance from Stockholm of "Aida."

Aside from the Saturday afternoon performances mentioned above, there are two other broadcasts in the days ahead that may certainly be of interest to many opera-lovers. One of these would be the Thursday (February 22) LIVE broadcast from Barcelona of Gounod's "Romeo & Juliette" which can be heard on Spain's Radio Clasica.

On Sunday (February 25), French Radio will be airing a LIVE performance from Paris of what seems to be one of the most-performed operas from the 20th century: Francis Poulenc's "Dialogues of the Carmelites."

Enjoy!
