OPERA ON THE INTERNET
WITH
DAVE  D' AGUANNO

Wagner enthusiasts will, no doubt, want to tune in to NPR this coming Saturday (September 3) for a November 2015 performance of "Die Meistersinger" which is part of the current series of broadcasts from the San Francisco Opera's 2015/2016 season.

Halevy's "La Juive" -- which seems to be turning up more frequently than ever these days -- comes to us on Radio 3 (RAI) in a performance of the work that took place in Lyons on April 1 of this year.

Fans of Juan Diego Florez will actually get a rare chance to hear the tenor this Saturday in a performance from this summer's Salzburg Festival of Otto Nicolai's "Templario" (1840) which is one of at least 14 (!!!) operas based on Sir Walter Scott's "Ivanhoe." Florez can be heard in the role of Ivanhoe himself in this August 30 performance. (Can Giovanni Pacini's "Ivanhoe" from 1832 be next, or maybe Sir Arthur Sullivan's 1891 version which he wrote without Gilbert?)

We also have yet another world premiere on the schedule for this Saturday -- another one, in fact, coming to us via Swedish Radio. This time around, it's Sven-David Sandstrom's "Forestallningen" ("The Performance") in its August 28, 2016 Stockholm performance. Interested listeners may care to check out the following information regarding this new opera (taken from the opera's Facebook page): "The chamber opera Föreställningen is set in the Salpetrière Hospital in Paris. As part of their treatment, three women, Henrika, Ann and Zora, are to appear before the world-famous physician Jean Martin Charcot and a distinguished audience. Katarina Frostenson’s strong text and Sven-David Sandström’s dynamic music shape the three women, their innermost struggles, self-contempt and pain, and also the empathy that arises between them.... "

Enjoy!
