As we near the end of the Met's current radio broadcast season, Verdi's "Un Ballo in Maschera" appears on the schedule for this coming Saturday afternoon (May 2). Tenor Piotr Beczala will be featured in this LIVE performance, along with soprano Sondra Radvanovsky and baritone Dmitri Hvorostovsky, both of whom appeared in the HD-transmission of this opera a couple of seasons ago.

From Berlin: a recent performance of "The Damnation of Faust" by Hector Berlioz, with Joyce Di Donato singing the role of Marguerite (to be heard on Radio 4 - the Netherlands).

For a LIVE performance of Donizetti's "Don Pasquale" from the Vienna State Opera, turn to ORF, & you'll be hearing tenor Juan Diego Florez in the role of Ernesto.

If Mozart's operas are among your favorites, you actually have two of his masterworks on the schedule this Saturday: "La Clemenza di Tito" can be heard on French Radio in a performance that took place in Paris on December 12 of last year.

On the other hand, there's "The Magic Flute" as performed last month in London's Royal Opera House. This one comes to us via the Belgian station Klara.

And if you'd like to "kick-start" your opera-listening this weekend, you may want to check out the Met's FREE live audio-stream on Fridayevening at 7:25 for the premiere performance this season of Stravinsky's 1951 opus "The Rake's Progress."

Enjoy!

This coming Saturday (April 25), the Met will be transmitting in HD the double-bill of Mascagni's "Cavalleria Rusticana" and Leoncavallo's "Pagliacci." Both operas feature the talented tenor Marcelo Alvarez, with soprano Eva-Maria Westbroek partnering him in the Mascagni work and soprano Patricia Racette doing the honors in the Leoncavallo piece.

There's more Italian opera in the offing on Saturday, so those of you who won't be attending the Met's HD-transmission may want to tune in to Radio 4 (the Netherlands) for a LIVE broadcast of Verdi's "Macbeth."

On French Radio, a broadcast of Korngold's "Die Tote Stadt" is scheduled, as performed in Nantes on March 13, 2015.

Moving into more modern terrain, the Belgian station Klara is presenting a performance of Pascal Dusapin's new opera "Penthesilea" which was recently given its world premiere performances in Brussels. Incidentally, a FREE video of this opera should be available, startingtomorrow (4/23), on the opera company's website.

Finally, in case you missed it when it was broadcast earlier this year, Gounod's rarely performed opera from 1877 -- "Cinq-Mars" -- can be heard on ORF (Austria). The performance to be heard is the one (and only 1) that took place in Munich on January 25 of this year.

Enjoy!
