OPERA ON THE INTERNET WITH DAVE D'AGUANNO
This Saturday (August 7), you can get a head start at noontime with a performance of Wagner's "Siegfried" (taped from L.A. Opera this past June)

If Richard Wagner is not your thing, you can give his son Siegfried a shot at 2 p.m. at which time his opera "Banadietrich" is getting a rare airing from a 1995 performance. (Son Siegfried actually wrote almost 20 operas of his own!)
At 1 p.m., KOHM is broadcasting a performance from Florence (November '09) of Janacek's "Cunning Little Vixen."
Plus, at 1:30, you'll get a chance to listen to last Sunday's Salzburg performance of Berg's "Lulu" (which was also televised in Europe, by the way)
Then, starting on Monday, August 9, RAITRE is broadcasting the operas from this summer's Rossini Festival in Pesaro, starting with his opera "Sigismondo."
Hope you can listen to at least one of these interesting operas!

OPERA IN CINEMA AT THE JANE PICKENS THEATER (Newport)
Dazzling Aida from the Bregenz Festival

July 11, Sunday, 12:00noon

AIDA

Indra Thomas as Aida

Dazzling Aida from the Bregenz Festival

Verdi’s Aida is one of the most popular operas of all time. It premiered at the Cairo Opera House on Christmas Eve, 1871, and was an immediate commercial success. The plot of Aida is filled with political intrigue, love, betrayal, passion, and vengeance – all set against the backdrop of ancient Egypt. This new production from the summer Bregenz Festival brings a fresh look at this classic: the action takes place on Bregenz’s famous “floating stage,” turning Austria’s Lake Constance into the Nile River for the evening. Although this production is in many ways unconventional, the music and drama are actually heightened by the setting: “The location will enhance the grand passion and tragic conflict of the story, with superb music,” said David Pountney, the artistic director. “The Bregenz floating stage and Giuseppe Verdi are a perfect match.” The creative team is truly living up to Aida’s reputation as “an intimate chamber opera, with a circus in the middle!”
